Instructions to connect a local printer to a Plume workstation
Here is how to configure a printer connected locally (USB or paralell port) to a Plume client running p910nd [1] with CUPS running on the server:
- connect to port 631 of the server using a web browser (ex.: http://localhost:631)
- click on the Printers or Manage printers link
- click on the left-down button Add printer
- choose a meaning name for the printer (ex.: brother7)
- optionally enter the location of the printer (ex.: Local 7)
- click on the Continue button
- select AppSocket/HP JetDirect device
- click on the Continue button
- enter the url to access the print server on the client (ex.: socket://ws7013)
- click on the Continue button
- select the make of the printer (ex.: Brother)
- click on the Continue button
- select the model and driver of the printer (ex.: HL-4Ve Foomatic/laserjet (recommended) (en))
- click on the Continue button
- click on the link with the name of the printer (ex.: brother7)
- click on the Configure Printer button and configure paper size or whatever other configuration item you want to change
- click on the Configure button matching the changes you made
You're done! Your printer should be available to every application (but not necessarily configurable from each application).
